Press Release

Installation view, Lutz Bacher, The Accidental Tourist, Greene Naftali, New York, 2016

Greene Naftali Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of a temporary exhibition space on 227 Leonard Street in Brooklyn. The former garage will open as a site for both the exhibition and production of new work, offering an alternative to conventional viewing conditions, as well as expanded working parameters in which artists may realize a wide range of projects. The flexible venue will be home to dynamic, open and spontaneous programming, inaugurating with The Accidental Tourist, another chapter in an ongoing series of occupations by American artist Lutz Bacher.

Lutz Bacher’s artistic practice has skillfully evaded identification or categorization for decades. Consistently employing or appropriating the abject, the amateur, and the abrasive in service of sublime metaphor, Bacher’s immersive installations comprising found objects, often heightened by ventures in photography, drawing, and video, offer profound afterlife to cultural detritus. This presentation in Brooklyn of The Accidental Tourist will follow her debut exhibition at the gallery in 2015, For the People of New York City.

Greene Naftali Garage at 227 Leonard will be open by appointment and on Saturdays and Sundays from 12PM to 6PM.
