Paul Sharits lived and worked in Buffalo, New York (d. 1993). Solo exhibitions of his work have been held at Greene Naftali, New York (2015, 2011, 2009); Fridericianum, Kassel (2014); Burchfield-Penney Art Center, Buffalo State College, New York (2008); and Anthology Film Archives, New York (1993).

His work is in the collections of The Art Institute of Chicago; Carnegie Museum of Art, Pittsburgh; Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris; The Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington, D.C.; Museum Ludwig, Cologne; The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; The Museum of Modern Art, New York; Walker Art Center, Minneapolis; and the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York.
