William Leavitt lives and works in Los Angeles. Recent solo exhibitions include Greene Naftali, New York (2019); Musée d'art moderne et contemporain, Genève, (2017); Institute of the History and Theory of Architecture, ETH, Zurich (2014); Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles (2011); and LAXART, Los Angeles (2009). Recent group exhibitions include 356 Mission (2017); Astrup Fearnley Museet, Oslo (2016); The Getty, Los Angeles (2016); The Kitchen, New York (2016); Swiss Institute, New York (2016); Whitney Museum of American Art, New York (2015); Hammer Museum, Los Angeles (2015, 2014); and Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam (2012).

His work is in the collections of Boijmans van Beuningen Museum, Rotterdam; Hammer Museum, Los Angeles; Los Angeles County Museum of Art; The Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; The Museum of Modern Art, New York; and the Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam, among others.
